A lot of the stigma surrounding mental illness is due to a basic lack of understanding. We are often scared or apprehensive of things that we don’t understand. What little knowledge people do have of mental health, often comes from the media and as a result is usually a rehashed and dramatized version of events, to make it entertaining or shocking to the reader. But what if you wanted a more truthful insight to mental health? You would most likely turn to the internet where you would be bombarded with lists of symptoms or long jargon filled case studies by various doctors and universities around the world. Even the most well meaning people, are likely to be overwhelmed and give up with only a vague idea and a few symptoms lodged in their consciousness.
My aim is to give people a deeper understanding of what it’s like to be mentally ill by giving them a personal perspective. I recently did an interview post (click here to view it) where I discussed what it is like for me living with mental illness, I’m now looking for others to join in my campaign and talk about their own experiences.
I’m looking for people from all walks of life and through different stages in their illness, whether you've just been diagnosed, are in the middle of your battle or have reached a stage of stability; I want your views and experiences. I want to cover as many different mental health issues as possible but I can only do so with your help.
Due to the very personal nature of the content, ALL posts will be published anonymously unless you EXPLICITLY state that you would like to be named. So what are you waiting for? You don't have to be a writer or have exceptional grammar and punctuation, you just have to have a story that you're willing to share.
If you'd like to get involved please fill in the form below. If you're a little apprehensive about giving out your email address, you can answer the questions anonymously here: Ask Me - The Questions
If you're not up to sharing, I hope you'll be so kind as to pass this along to help get as many people on board as possible.
Thank you x
